“I do not want recent controversies of my making to stall or otherwise impede the clear progress that is being made in the financial recovery of Harrisburg,” said Black, president and CEO of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and Capital Region Economic Development Corp.
The video, which satirized efforts by city officials to address Harrisburg’s heavy debt load caused primarily by its incinerator, was part of the chamber’s annual awards night event on the West Shore. Some city officials took offense to the skit, which was posted by an attendee to YouTube.
The day after the event, Black said the video was made in fun and he didn’t intend for it to come across as disrespectful. He later apologized.
Black said today that the city recovery comes first and that he did not want to be a distraction. The chamber will continue to offer professional services to the city, Dauphin County and the region where needed and where helpful, he said.
“Our goal remains a fiscally strong and vibrant city and a world-class region,” Black said.
The advisory committee meets every other week. It serves to advise the city’s receiver, William Lynch, and includes the mayor, president of the City Council and a representative from Dauphin County. Black served as the governor’s representative.
Because of the holidays, the committee will not meet again until Jan. 9, according to Lynch’s office.
Kelli Roberts, a spokeswoman for Gov. Tom Corbett, said the office had no comment on the resignation.
“We’re working to find a replacement as soon as possible,” she said.
