Accused prescription-selling New Cumberland doctor faces new drug charges

Listen to this articleAttorney General Kathleen Kane released a grand jury presentment Tuesday with testimony that David Wait, 55, prescribed about 102,000 oxycodone pills from January to June, including for people he was not treating as a doctor.
Wait accepted cash in exchange for the prescriptions, according to the grand jury presentment and law enforcement officials testifying to the grand jury.
Wait met with confidential informants for law enforcement and undercover law enforcement officials for buys in Cumberland, Dauphin and York counties. That included his home on Bridge Street in New Cumberland, various midstate convenience stores and other public places.
Wait is charged with 13 counts of unlawful prescription of a controlled substance by a practitioner, one count of corrupt organizations, one count of dealing in proceeds of unlawful activity and one count of criminal use of a communication facility.
In the fall, the state announced Wait had been suspended by the board of medicine.
He already had been in Cumberland County Prison on similar charges, according to court documents, and now is being transferred to Dauphin County Prison, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
