The minority- and woman-owned IT consulting firm has about 35 people working in this region, said Jeff Briel, senior sales director and head of the Harrisburg office. However, it hasn’t had an operations center, as most employees work on-site for clients.

The new office opening at 320 Market St. will provide an opportunity to grow the local staff and solidify the company’s presence, he said.

It also will help Sigma expand its offerings in the important government sector, said Sandeepa Kaleida, the company’s CEO.

The commonwealth figures to be Sigma’s primary client, Briel said. But the firm will also target private-sector companies.

“Companies are realizing the return on investment when they increase IT services and what the technology can bring to you,” Briel said. “A way for cost savings is to work smarter.”

In the Pittsburgh area, the majority of its work is for the private sector.

Sigma plans to work with Harrisburg University of Science and Technology to find and retain locally grown talent in the city, Briel added. “The idea is to add more jobs in Harrisburg. That’s solely what it comes down to. HU helps build a base for IT.”
