Wendell Hollinger, president and CEO of Safe Harbour Inc. for 22 years, said he will retire from the organization this August, Safe Harbour officials have announced.

The nonprofit’s board of directors will immediately begin a search for the next president and CEO, its officials said in a news release.

In his time at the helm for Safe Harbour, Hollinger has led a renovation of its Carlisle facilities and expanded its efforts to garner private help by creating a community relations and development position, its news release said.

Hollinger also has guided Safe Harbour in developing and constructing an emergency shelter to help families and single females who need “an environment to begin getting their lives under control,” and has helped it to expand permanent housing options for single individuals and families preparing for independent living, officials said.

Hollinger said in a statement that he has “reached the time in my career where I am ready to step away from the day-to-day efforts and concentrate on spending time with my wife, my family, my friends and my motorcycle.

“I am very proud of the achievements Safe Harbour has made and the expansion of services we have provided to homeless and nearly homeless children and adults,” Hollinger added.

The chairman of Safe Harbour’s board, Paul Strizzi, said the nonprofit “has benefited mightily in the past 22 years from Wendell’s dedicated service to the community, and his strong commitment to creating housing and supportive programs to help the most vulnerable members of society.”

Hollinger’s leadership has made Safe Harbour “a strong and vibrant organization,” Strizzi added.
