Officials with the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and Capital Region Economic Development Corp. (CREDC) today confirmed their proposal for locating Amazon.com’s second headquarters in the midstate was submitted in hard-copy form earlier this week.

Deadline for submissions in the North American competition to land “HQ2” is today.

“Because this is a competitive process, we cannot share copies of the proposal at this time,” a chamber statement indicated. A press conference regarding the proposal is set for this afternoon.

Chamber officials previously said the bid would focus on the former Harrisburg State Hospital site in Dauphin County, although chamber President and CEO Dave Black did acknowledge earlier this month that there were other sites the agency might spotlight, though he was not prepared to identify them yet.

The midstate bid will be up against significant competition from across the U.S. and Canada, and there are questions about whether Harrisburg-area transportation infrastructure is up to the challenge.

Still, chamber officials have said they believe the bid is worthwhile because it helps bring the region’s attributes to the attention not only of Amazon’s leadership, but site-selection professionals who may be closely watching the bid competition to scout locations for other developments.
