The new CEO of Goodwill Keystone Area, who stepped into the role this summer, has spent 25 years of his life working to help people with disabilities develop job skills needed to live independent lives.

Miller calls his passion for the job the “Goodwill Burn.”

“It’s the Goodwill Burn in your heart to help people with disabilities and disadvantages and see the life-changing effect our organization has on people,” Miller said in a press release. The organization uses revenue from its retail stores to provide people with job training and placement.

The $63 million nonprofit serves and employs more than 6,000 people over 22 counties in southeast and Central Pennsylvania.

Since taking the job in June, Miller has been on a listening tour of Harrisburg-based Goodwill Keystone Area’s 47 retail stores, outlets, donation centers and offices, which serve more than 3 million shoppers in Southeast and Central Pennsylvania each year.

Miller’s aim: better understanding how the organization works, and looking for ways it can improve both as a retailer and a nonprofit. In addition to its stores, Goodwill has an online auction shopping platform, shopgoodwill.com.

Before coming to Pennsylvania Miller was the CEO for 14 years at Goodwill Industries of the San Joaquin Valley in Stockton, Calif. He served in the same leadership capacity at Goodwill organizations in Waterloo, Iowa and Flagstaff, Ariz.
