The struggling retailer on Friday will open its smaller Sears Appliances & Mattresses store at the Lower Allen Township mall, the site of its former department store.

The larger Sears store closed earlier this year to make room for multiple stores, including Dick’s Sporting Goods and a state liquor store, as part of a mall makeover by PREIT, the mall’s Philadelphia-based owner.

Sears Appliances & Mattresses combines two of the chain’s strongest categories, appliances and mattresses. Appliance brands include Kenmore, while mattress brands include Tempur-Pedic, Beautyrest, Sealy, Serta, Simmons and Stearns & Foste.

The smaller Sears, which is 12,248 square feet, also features an assortment of vacuums, floor-care and home-environment products, as well as countertop microwaves.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Friday morning. A grand opening celebration will follow on Saturday, according to Sears. The store will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The first Sears Appliances & Mattresses opened in Texas over the summer. A Sears Appliances store opened last year in Colorado. In addition to the local store opening, the chain also will open a new specialized store in Honolulu this weekend.

On the horizon for Capital City is a Dave & Buster’s, which will take over the Old Navy space on the other side of the Cumberland County shopping complex. Dave & Buster’s is slated to open in 2018.
