Banking/finance

The York Chapter of Credit Unions named Pavel Shuvalau its 2018 Youth Ambassador. A sophomore at York College, Shuvalau is a part-time member service representative at White Rose Credit Union.

Chicago-based Government Finance Officers Association gave two national awards to Dauphin County Controller Tim DeFoor: the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and, for the county’s 2016 comprehensive and popular financial reports, the Popular Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting.

Construction

Rapho Township-based Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors announced the top scorers in its 2017 Apprenticeship Craft Competition. Education

State Department of Education Secretary Pedro A. Rivera named Jennifer R. Wahl the 2018 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year. Wahl is a teacher at Loyalsock Township High School in Lycoming County.

Health care

Washington, D.C.-based Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit health care ratings organization, gave UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle, Community Osteopathic, Harrisburg and West Shore hospitals an “A” grade, the highest grade, for UPMC Pinnacle’s commitment to patient safety and meeting the highest safety standards.

Washington, D.C.-based National Committee for Quality Assurance gave AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania its Multicultural Health Care Distinction designation. The West Hanover Township-based Medicaid managed care plan serves central and northwestern Pennsylvania.

Pittsburgh-based Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania named two midstate winners: Abigail Strouse, DNP, director of clinical services at WellSpan York Hospital, won in the Nursing Administration, Executive, category; and Carol O’Hara, RN, performance improvement coordinator for transitions at Geisinger Holy Spirit, won in the Community Nursing category.

Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health named these area providers for ranking in the top 10 percent in patient experience nationally at the health system’s annual Top Patient Experience Clinicians Awards event: JeNeal Guise, CRNP, Geisinger Holy Spirit OB/GYN; Jennifer Hosterman, DO, Geisinger Holy Spirit Nutrition and Weight Management; Kelli Scurfield, PA-C, Geisinger Holy Spirit Breast Care Center; John Snoke, DO, Geisinger Holy Spirit Primary Care-Camp Hill; Jennifer Still, MD, Geisinger Holy Spirit Pediatrics-Carlisle; and Melissa Wolfe, PA-C, Geisinger Holy Spirit Neurology.

Insurance

Business Insurance magazine ranked two midstate firms to its Annual Best Places to Work in Insurance List: Gunn-Mowery LLC of Lemoyne was ranked No. 31; and McConkey Insurance & Benefits of Springettsbury Township was ranked No. 38.

Member-owned PCPA Workers’ Compensation Trust gave TrueNorth Wellness Services its Safety Award for the fifth consecutive year for maintaining a superior safe working environment.

Manufacturing

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration named York-based Manufacturers’ Association the region’s only recipient of a Susan Harwood Training Grant, for electrical safety training. The grants support training and education for workers and employers on workplace safety and health hazards, responsibilities and rights. The Manufacturers’ Association will offer electrical safety courses throughout southcentral Pennsylvania and will aid local companies interested in providing the course at their own facilities.

Marketing

The Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America named the best public relations projects of the year. 2017 Keystone Award winners were: Nell McCormack Abom Communications, for “PA Blue Ribbon Champion for Kids Awards,” in two categories, Media Relations/Media Placement and Special Events and Observances; Bravo Group for “Healthy Me PA,” Digital Public Relations category; Deeter Gallaher Group LLC for “#WSPShopSmallCampaign,” Special Events and Observances category; and Glatfelter Insurance Group for “MVP Conference,” Special Events and Observances category. 2017 Silver Keystone Award winners were: Deeter Gallaher Group for “Executive Insights for the College Classroom: Build Your Network Before You Need It,” Written Communications, and for “Centric Bank 2016 Annual Report,” Annual Report category; Gannett Fleming for “Gannett Fleming’s 2016 Annual Report for Employees,” Annual Report category; three Marketing Communications Program category winners were Stoner Inc. for “Invisible Glass Spring Cleaning Campaign,” Pavone for “Human Side of Donation” and Glatfelter Insurance Group for “Glatfelter Rocks”; Glatfelter Insurance also won for “GPP Tradeshow Booth Display,” Creative Communication category, and “GSB Website Redesign,” Website category; Homeland Center for “150th Anniversary Gala Celebration,” Special Events and Observances, Governments/Nonprofit category; Select Medical for “Long-term acute care and hospital social media campaign,” Digital Public Relations category; Pace Public Relations, a Millersville University student-run agency, and Power Packs Project for “Pack the Potential: Community, Media, Engagement,” a student project; and Keen PR for “One Voice: A Comprehensive Communication Plan,” a student project. In addition, Julian A. Richter was presented with Central PA PRSA’s highest individual honor, the Frederick E.
