Springettsbury Township-based Stambaugh Ness named Valerie Higgins director of architecture, engineering and construction advisory services. She will lead the practice area and collaborate with clients. She was a controller, software consultant, CFO and project manager.

Conewago Township-based Smith Elliott Kearns & Company LLC named Michael Flurie and Jack Slick partners. They are CPAs and were partners with Maryland-based Flurie, Slick & Kinnett CPAs, P.A., which Smith Elliott acquired.

Harrisburg-based UPMC Pinnacle named Dr. James Raczek system chief medical officer. He will lead quality and safety programs, medical education and medical staff relationships and contribute to strategic planning and implementation. He was senior vice president and chief medical officer at Eastern Maine Medical Center. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving as a staff family physician in Nebraska. He has a bachelor’s degree from Carroll College in Wisconsin and a medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School. Dr. Melissa Puher and Heather Weddle were named members of UPMC Pinnacle Supportive Care and Palliative Medicine’s clinical team. Puher has a medical degree from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Weddle was director of clinical services for the mid-Atlantic region with Aspire Healthcare. She is an advanced practice registered nurse and has an undergraduate degree from York College and a master’s degree from Widener University. Cristina Salabao was named a member of Hematology and Oncology. She has a degree from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and a master’s degree from Saint Louis University.
