The mall is the Colonial Shopping Center in the 900 block of South George Street, which is in Spring Garden Township and close to both the college and WellSpan York Hospital.

Tenants include Minnich’s Pharmacy and Colonial Coffee Shop.

The purchase price was not immediately available. According to York County property records, the shopping center last sold in 2006 for $3.9 million.

The college also said it was given an adjacent parcel, which formerly housed a Tom’s convenience store.

College spokeswoman Mary Dolheimer said York College has no immediate plans to change the site. It was a strategic purchase that could help address future needs of the campus, she said.

President Pamela Gunter-Smith echoed that sentiment in a prepared statement.

“The acquisition of these properties reflects careful planning for the long-term viability of the college and ensures our ability to address future needs of the campus, programs and students,” she said.

Gunter-Smith cited other investments that the college has made over the years, including the Center for Community Engagement and Marketview Arts, as examples of its commitment to community collaboration.
