Turner Automotive Group in process of buying Sutliff Chevrolet
Listen to this articleAccording to a statement obtained by the Business Journal, the shareholders of Harrisburg-based Sutliff Chevrolet have reached an agreement to sell the dealership, founded in 1931, to Lee and Sharon Turner of Lemoyne, who own Turner Automotive Group.
Sutliff Auto Group CEO Greg Sutliff, 86, who bought back majority control of the Chevrolet dealership in 2014 after a succession plan eroded, was not immediately available for further comment. President Jonathan Casey deferred questions to Sutliff, who is his father-in-law.
Lee Turner was not immediately available for comment. Turner Automotive owns Turner Kia in nearby Swatara Township and Turner Buick GMC in Lancaster County.
The pending Chevrolet deal, which must still be approved by General Motors and the Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles, does not impact Sutliff Auto Group’s other dealerships.
The Harrisburg company runs a Volkswagen dealership adjacent to the Chevrolet dealership. It also owns Buick GMC and Cadillac dealerships in State College.
Terms of the Chevrolet transaction were not disclosed. The two sides, according to the brief statement, are not planning any further announcements during the review by GM and the DMV.
That review process could take several weeks to wrap up. The transaction, if finalized, is not expected to have any impact on the current employees of Sutliff Chevrolet. The Chevrolet dealership will continue normal operations.
Sutliff Chevrolet was first located at 407 S. Cameron St. before moving to its current location at 13th and Paxton streets in 1948.
Sutliff Auto Group finished 2017 with $128.9 million in revenue.
