The 73rd store for the company is in Walkersville, Maryland, a town near Fredericksburg.
Spokesperson Kristopher Brown said the Walkersville location not only fits Rutter’s goal of keeping its stores close enough to deliver fresh ingredients but is also a chance to bring the Pennsylvania chain to a new market.
“Walkersville is widely regarded as one of the best places to live in Maryland and they only have a handful of gas stations,” Brown said.
The new convenience store and gas station has 10 fueling stations and three diesel fueling stations, as well as a restaurant with seating for 30. The store will employ 50 people and is expected to operate 24 hours a day.
Rutter’s would not disclose the cost of the building but plans to introduce six more stores in Maryland, Scott Hartman, president and CEO of Rutter’s, said in a statement.
“Maryland is a natural progression for us in our growth plans,” Hartman said, noting that his company’s headquarters is 19 miles from the Maryland-Pennsylvania line.
Maryland is the third state to host a Rutter’s convenience store. The company opened its 70th store in Inwood, West Virginia, in May 2018.
